General Information

RATE can be used by students, faculty, and staff at the University of Minnesota. RATE won't work with "departmental" or "sponsored" Internet IDs. RATE is compatible with all current web browsers, including mobile devices like tablets and phones. If you'd like to use the video recording functionality, we recommend using the Google Chrome web browser.

Instructions for Students

You can use the RATE tool as part of a course, or on your own. If you're completing a RATE for a course, and your instructor has provided a link within your course Canvas or Moodle site, be sure you use that link. That way, you're sure to get credit for completing the assignment.

If you'd like to complete a RATE on your own, you can either do a "quick RATE" or a "full RATE". A quick RATE helps you record your experiences so you can reflect on them further at a later time. Think of it as a way to take some quick notes, before you forget. A full RATE takes longer and walks you through the full Reflect, Articulate, Translate, Evaluate process. Finally, once you've completed at least one RATE, you'll be able to use the "Prepare" tool, which lets you use your RATE information to practice for interviews.

When you're working on a RATE, you can use the "save draft" button to save your progress and come back later. To find your saved RATEs, go to https://rate.umn.edu, and click on "view existing responses" below the "Start a RATE" button.

If you run into any trouble, send an email to help@umn.edu and mention the RATE tool.

Instructions for Instructors
